So, the Hemlock Ring Blanket is growing. And super quickly, too. It feels really odd to be working lace in such a heavy weight yarn, but it’s also nice to watch it grow before your eyes. When you work with laceweight, you knit for hours, and your project takes 3 days to grow an inch!
Here’s a closer look at the Feather and Fan part.
I’m using 5.5mm needles, but I think I could have gone up to a 6mm and still been happy with the resulting fabric. Except that I don’t have a very long 6mm needle. I’m using a 5.5mm Knitpicks tip, on a 100 cm cord, and it’s getting a bit crowded. I’ve ordered a 150cm cable from Donni, and I think I’m going to need it pretty soon.
And did I mention that these hanks are huge? I’m up to round 87. I have over 400 stitches per round, and I still have this much of the first hank left.
Doesn’t look like much? How about now?

Brooklyn Tweed did 101 rounds on his blanket. I may make mine a little bigger, we’ll see how bored I am and how hot the weather is when I get there. It’s another hot day today.
Last time I posted, I mentioned I was having trouble with my ‘net connection. Twasn’t the connection. My modem laid down and quietly died not long after I finished the post. I now realise that I am far too reliant on my ‘net connection. I had no internet for just over a day. I was a little lost soul. No blogs, no Ravelry, email only through my mobile phone.
Emily was asking me questions about her homework, and I had no Google! No dictionary.com!
I am pathetic!
And today my 13 month old car is back at the dealer, because warning lights are coming on that shouldn’t be. I have had no car all day. I’m almost as bad as I was without my internet.
Thank heavens for old fashioned knitting, huh? No mechanical bits that can pack it in when least expect it.

I’m bad without the ‘net too, it affects my work – I can’t submit work to my syndicator without e-mail. And as for no email or blogs…!

Those hanks are huge!! I’m totally lost without the internet too. Yes, good old knitting is great. Although there’s this thing called gauge that I’ve heard can mess things up sometimes 😉 Not going to happen with this blanket I’m sure, it’s looking lovely!

The Hemlock Blanket is going like the clappers!! And it is strange seeing ‘big’ lace!! Some days I don’t turn my computer on at all if I’m tired. It’s like Lent really. Hope the car is OK. Yes, with knitting it’s just some wool and needles and you’re away!!
I know the lost feeling
I am glad I have good portable knitting too as last week I had no power which meant no not much Not even my sunday afternoon cuppa and dvd time.
Hemlock looks good and well we need to beat the heat. I have the same problem with the heat and a white baby shawl.
I was without a good connection for a few days too and I would have been lost except that I was too busy entertaining guests. You better believe it was fixed right before they left. I can’t believe I’ve turned into such a computer junkie!

That blanket is really zipping along! I really love the feather and fan repeats. I’m almost done with my Feather & Fan shawl from A Gathering of Lace. I just have the edging to do….only ever crocheted a granny square in my life so I’m very worried about the crochet edging. Haven’t figured out how to start it yet. I can’t wait till that’s done! Hope to finish it before the baby…but there’s so much baby preparation to be done!
A friend of mine made her Hemlock Ring blanket bigger by using three skeins. It’s a beautiful pattern.
The blanket looks great. I had to go back and find the pattern and it looks like a nice winter knit for me. I have too many gifts to finish now, but once as they are done, this will be it.
The Hemlock is really growing – I wish my 2-ply lace shawl will grow much faster. I really like the Hemlock but have to admit that I will not be able to find the time to knit it – what a pity!

Life without internet connection………. noooo don’t even say it. Bloglines wasn’t working for me during last week and that was bad enough.
the blankie is lovely- there is someone on Ravelry who has made several famous lace projects in worsted weight yarn, but only a few repeats, and they are GORGEOUS. Sorry about your car, I also am stuck and hates it too.
Mine arrived too and it’s coming along nicely. But I think I like how yours is looking with the smaller size needles. It was a really hard decision which colour to do it in I was tossing up between the cream and the latte in the end I just went for the original colour being the Latte. Love your socks they are really fab and the Hanging Garden Stole is very pretty especially in that pink. I think I am getting a fetish for the colour pink in my old age lol.
