Hooray!

I love my daughter to pieces, I really, really do.
But today she went back to school after nearly 10 weeks of holiday, and I am so glad. There’s been no Disney channel, no MTV, no buzz of the mobile phone.
Mind you, I’m sure she’s just as sick of the sight of me, but it’s so nice to have my house back. She was a bit of a wreck this morning, she’s going to a new school for the last 2 years of High School – (All girls!!), and she’s never been the new girl before, so there was a little stress, but as soon as we arrived she saw someone she knew, so it was all good.
So I’m about to sit, on my sofa, fan pointed at only me, and knit. With some crappy daytime TV that isn’t teen-oriented.
I think I’ll work on Autumn Rose. I’ve started the sleeves.

I’m still doing two at once. I am definitely not ready for Fair Isle, two at once on two circs, so I’m just using two sets of DPNS, and doing a few rows on one, then catching up on the other. So far, so good.
The tutu is finished. Due to the sunburn, there are no pictures of her wearing it, though. It’s basically the same as the last tutu I made for her, just bigger.

And the sunburn? Better. There’s a picture, but I hid it behind a link – it’s not the worst sunburn I’ve ever seen, but it ain’t pretty. (This was Wednesday afternoon, after the burn on Saturday)

It’s not bright red any more, but it’s a little bit blistery and gross. She won’t skimp on the sunscreen again.
And despite the heat, we had the appearance of snow yesterday afternoon.

There’s almost a whole other bunny in there!

  1. The sleeves look great so far. You are very good knitting both at once. I hope Emily settles into her new school which I am sure she will. The sunburn doesnt look too bad. I have had blisters worse than that when I was young, the sunscreen didnt work very well back then.

  2. you’re starting the sleeves already? that means you must have finish both the front and back piece 🙂
the tutu is gorgeous!! i dun think i’ve ever wore one before!! hahahaha. anyway, you’re so clever!!!
is twinkie shedding so much fur???????????

  3. oooh, ouchy blisters!
the tutu is so very pretty (if only it were red. And about 100 sizes bigger!). You are such a clever seamstress! And Autumn Rose – wow!

  4. That is one bad burn. Try aloe vera to speed up the healing process? (fresh aloe vera, not the bottled ones..) I find that it really helps soothe and heal. 🙂
Thats a really pretty tutu. And the Autumn Rose seems to be coming along really quickly!

  5. ouch! i had a burn like that once – a little patch at my neckline in front – let me tell you – once was enough for a lifetime! ummm….did you trim twinkie…if so, didn’t she squirm?

  6. Oooh , that’s going to peel.
    Love the tutu, it’s purple.
Spent today worrying about my daughter , who started at new school today for year 9. She was at her last school since Kindy. All turned out OK, a girl she used to go to after school care with a few years ago, started today as well, so they hung out together

  7. My daughter burned her face very badly during our first day of skiing in Colorado a few years back. I had given her one of those sunblock sticks and let her put it on her face unsupervised (she was about 11). By the end of the day we could see the zigzag path that the stick took all over her face. Ouch. The next day she had little blisters all over her cheeks. Those sticks are bad news: too easy to miss areas and not know it.
Autumn Rose is looking great. I don’t like to juggle two items on two circs if there is more than one yarn going to each item either.

  8. Oh, poor Em – I’ve had burns like that. NO fun. And Twinkie is moulting from the heat, poor bunny. (Hm. I don’t suppose one can spin short bunnyfur…?)
Two sleeves at the same time makes a lot of sense to me. I usually stop with one and a quarter sleeves done!

  9. Ah, back to school! Do I have to? LOL
Seems we have only one focus for our attention around here and that centres on something happening tomorrow afternoon! 😉
Enjoy Em while she’s still at home.

  10. Gee your soo talented. The tutu is soo pretty, your stitching is as lovely as your knitting.
Isnt it wonderfully quiet now the kids are back at school. I spent one day with no tv or music on and it was glorious.
    See you tomorrow.

  11. The tutu is beyond gorgeous. I grew up at the beach and t-shirts were our sunscreen. I have my fair amount of freckles from my sunburns. The had one of those skin treatment promo’s and saw my face under a black light. My face lite up with freckles that you can not see with the naked eye, thank g, I’d be one scary gal.
Oh, I’m sure Twinky is feeling better after her grooming.
