And so, finally, the Monkey socks are done!
Em’s happy with them.
Specs:
Pattern: Cookie A’s Monkey socks from Knitty Winter 2006.
Yarn: Sterling Silver and Silk by Kraemer Yarns, purchased at Stitch Cafe in Valley Village in Los Angeles, and hand dyed by them.
Needles: 2.25mm Pony Pearl DPNS
Love the pattern! Super easy to memorise, and fast to work. The socks did take me over a month to do, but I didn’t work on them very much at all. Em picked the yarn while we were in the USA, and I chose the pattern for two reasons, first because it looks nice in variegated yarns, and second because David calls Emily the Wild Monkey, so it seemed appropriate.
The yarn was really, really nice to work with. It’s soft, but seems sturdy, and the silver sparkle is pretty! I’m not sure how it will hold up to washing and wear, but I’ll let you know. I think it might be the same yarn that’s available as “Ginger” at Live 2 Knit in Australia, and if it is, I highly recommend it!
And now I have a confession to make. While I was in Hawaii, I bought some…
Fun Fur. Yes, I bought novelty yarn. And I paid an exorbitant amount of money for it, I have no idea what I was thinking. But I did buy it with a purpose.
It’s going to be a Hedgehog. I couldn’t resist.
Does buying Fun Fur and actually knitting with it get me kicked out of the Cool Knitters Club?
Hang on, was I ever in the Cool Knitters Club?!?
I feel better now about the 100% acrylic I bought last night 😉
I don’t know about cool knitters, but if you make that hedgehog you’ll definitely be in the adorable knitters club!!
Ha ha, nah, you’re still in! 🙂
Oh Oh OH!!! I have that pattern..somewhere.. Im going to watch with great interest how you go with this little bloke. I also want to do that Alan Dart Gnomes pattern!! When I get the pattern of course!! And you are so “way” in the Cool Knitting Club!!
I do appreciate the excellent foot stylin’ going on there: lovely pointed foot!!
Oh those hedgehogs are so cute. I think they are cuter than an echidna and I don’t really know why!!
The socks look really good. And I think everyone must buy fun fur at least once in their knitting career. It’s what makes this hedgehog so cute.
Cool is overrated and hedgehogs are CUTE!!
I have that pattern somewhere….
I bought it with the short person in mind while I was pregnant, and just haven’t gotten to it yet. Soon! If I can find the pattern….
I have that hedgehog pattern – to tease the dogs with and then give to The Princess – who has a real, life hedgehog! I can’t wait to see yours knit up. g
That fun fur would totally have gotten you kicked out if you were knitting a scarf. But… the hedgehogs are a whole nother basket of yarn. It solidifies your spot in the Club. Totally.
My aversion to the fur has kept me from tackling it, but I so want to!
Honey, you are in the totally cool EVERYTHING club!
Love the monkeys. Can’t wait to see the hedgehog.
Cute hedgehogs are worthy of fun fur. So yep, still cool;p
The Monkey looks great on Em. I am also knitting the Monkey now. You should consider knitting the Crazy Monkey next as it’s a purless version of the Monkey & I think it’s nicer & easier to knit.
I think it would take a lot more than a bit of fun fur to counter the coolness of having visited Wendy of Wendyknits.
And the hedgehog is worth it. Hmm, I keep trying to think of ways to convert it to an echidna. Any spikey novelty yarns out there?
I can’t wait to see this Hedgehog!
Great monkeys.
Just dropping in to see what you’ve been up to. Lovely knitting going on. I love all your shawls. Definately well deserved ribbons.
I’ve never bought fun fur and really don’t understand the whole fun fur thing however …. I’m knitting with 100% acrylic I bought at Walmart 3 yrs ago for 50 cents a skein so who knows ….
Look at that dancer’s foot! 🙂
Lovely socks too!
Those Hedgehogs look so cute!
And what of the Cool Knitters Club? You ARE the Cool Knitters Club.
