The challenge begins

This year, I’ve entered the Shetland Shawl in the Royal Easter Show.
Last time we saw it (back in July), it looked like this.

And much as I hate to admit it, that’s how it still looks. Today I was thinking about the show and the shawl, and I realised that Easter is relatively early this year. So I checked the schedule, and entries need to be delivered on March 7 and 8.
42 days. I have to knit two borders, graft them to the shawl, dye it and block it. I figure I need to do at least 6 rows a day.
So I probably shouldn’t have started a pair of Baudelaire’s, should I?

  1. Hee, hee. I was just thinking how many rows I would have to do a night to get past the basketweave section on the Hanami I am knitting.
No deadline, I just want to move past that part.
I will enjoy watching you finish this shawl.

  2. Well you’ve done it now – publicly committed yourself. Now you’ll HAVE to finish it – not just for the Show, but for the viewers.
Can you believe I missed the deadline? I thought it was the 19th Jan, and checked on the 13th to find that it had passed on the 11th. I was inconsolable.
However, now that I think about it, there’s NO WAY I’d have finished my FFL in 42 days – according to a reliable source I’m only 30% done – and it’s taking 45 minutes per round now. Next year maybe.

  3. Ooh looking forward to seeing your Baudelair’s. They are very high on my to-knit list. Pattern printed out – just need to get a few other things finished and then I will start them. So I will watch your progress with interest! Goodluck with the show deadline. :o)

  4. You are going to have to get a move on. The Royal Easter Show sounds a bit like our Farm Show here in Pennsylvania. It is dedicated to all things agricultural.Plus they have a section of crafts, and a Sheep to Shawl contest.Lots of animals to see and pet etc. Lots of food.Wish you the best.It is 23F here,I wouldn’t mind being 150 meters from the Lost set right now.
