Elbac!

Finally, Elbac is dry, ends woven in, and modeled.
The scarf.

Pattern: Elbac from Knitty, Winter 2006.
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Navy, 3 skeins.
Needles: 5mm

It’s a ingenious design, using ribbed cables, so that the scarf is reversible. The pattern itself is pretty easily memorised, although I’m sure that in one or two places I added too many rows between the cable rows.

I love the ends!
Casting off was a little stressful though, as I was pretty sure I was going to run out of yarn. Not being able to calculate easily how much yarn I needed for each row made casting off an experience!
The finished scarf is 150cm (60″) long. I would have liked it a little longer, but Em’s happy with it. The pattern calls for 64 pattern repeats in the middle, but I only managed 36 repeats.
Modeled on the recipient.

Oops! Wrong pic.

She looks pretty happy with it, doesn’t she? School went back today, and I’m informed that all her friends are jealous, and want one just like it.
I hope their mothers can knit!
And guess what? I got my Ravelry!! Hip hooray! Feel free to add me – my username is RandomKnits.

  1. It’s gorgeous! A bit longer would be nice but 28 more repeats?!
You’ve been busy on Ravelry. Three stashed yarns? I’m too chicken to put all my stash up there … out of sight is out of mind!

  2. Your scarf is beautiful! I wasn’t too impressed with the pattern when I saw it on Knitty, but seeing it here has moved it onto my “to-do” list.

  3. I do have to admit it looks better on Em. Twinkie looks bemused. I want to make this now, too.

  4. I think the length looks good. Long enough to keep warm, short enough to not get in the way. It looks good on Twinkie, great on Em. 😉

  5. The scarf is GORGEOUS…so pretty…I did a modified version of the Arwyn cardi for my baby and I’m really starting to love reversible cables….

  6. The scarf looks great and thanks for reminding us of that pattern. I definitely have to make that. Also, the models are darling.

  7. The scarf looks great. I will have to keep in mind the length when I get around to making it.
I also love the shawl and trophies from the post before. I had to catch up on blog posts.
I will add you to my ravelry friends.

  8. Oh Elbac looks fantastic and just the right length!! I am sure Twinkie is sad and needs a scarf of her very own!!!

  9. Elbac looks great on Em. I am still knitting on my Elbac & also enjoying the cable pattern which is easily memorised. I use a row counter to help with the no. of rows. Have to finish it by Aug 10!
