The Icarus, she is done!

This has been the hardest shawl I’ve ever had to photograph. It came out blurry, then it was too dark. It’s taken 3 days to get a half decent shot.
Specs: “Icarus” from Interweave Knits Summer 2006, Designed by Miriam of Mimknits
Yarn: Misti Baby Alpaca in Black, purchased from The Knitting Zone
Needles: 3.5mm Addi Natura bamboo circ, from STYK
Pattern Modifications:
I left out on full repeat of Chart 1, because I was fairly certain I would have run out of yarn otherwise. I did have yarn leftover, but I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t have made it if I’d done that last repeat. I’m happy with the finished size, regardless. It’s 77cm (30.5″) down the centre back, and 155cm (62″) across the wingspan.
It’s an easier lace pattern than I would normally do, and those endless repeats of chart one nearly drove me insane, so much so that it got put aside for a good while in the middle of knitting it. Once I moved on to Chart 2 though, I loved it.
I also really enjoyed working wtht he Misti Baby Alpaca.
Now back to the purple blob!

  1. GEE-ORGEOUS! Love it! The one thing keeping me from doing it is the boring center panel. Maybe I will just have to work past it. Now I really do need to get that Misti Alpaca they had in Florida. Wonder if my Mom is headed that way before coming home?

  2. The posted pictures turned out great, well the shawl too, of course. I’ve got some Misty Baby Alpaca on a greenish color. Not sure yet what to do with it.

  3. Beautiful shawl! I’ve noticed that is kind of a bad thing about knitting, once you start doing really intricate stuff it’s hard to go back to easier stuff without being bored!

  4. I love this yarn too! Sometimes the repeats can get really mindless and easy but it can become boring when it goes on forever. Since Icarus is black, I bet it will go with lots of things!

  5. I’ve been a bit behind in my blogs, but have sat here this morning just in awe of your beautiful photos. The sweet doll is precious — have you found your supplies for her yet? I’m looking forward to hearing about your progress on her!
Congratulations on the sock and most especially on Icarus! I would say a celebration is in order, but it looks like you have already found your present, the lovely Jo Sharp book and lavender yarn!!! You always have something beautiful on those needles. 🙂
Have you picked out some new wool for your poor beloved’s new socks?

  6. wow. i keep picking mine up and putting it back down. the “mindless” part was such a breeze, and so quick. i haven’t been knitting much on final chart because i can’t have a conversation or watch a movie or even listen to npr!
i should finish it though … so i can start another shawl.
    the black is lovely ….
