It’s done, it’s done!

The baby shawl is all finished, bar the blocking. I’m pretty pleased with it, and I’m sure I’ll like it even more when it’s blocked! It has just now occured to me that this may not be the most appropriate gift for this baby. The mother is not a knitter, and she has a toddler in addition to the new baby. A shawl that needs to be blocked may not be appropriate. And the family lives in Brisbane, with the baby due next month. Brisbane’s temperature in February averages 25C.
Hmm. They’re getting it anyway!
The shawl will not be blocked today, because it looks like this again.

However, that means it’s a lovely day for knitting. And just in the nick of time, my haul from Yarns Online arrived.

Yum! The colours didn’t show up very accurately though, here’s a better pic.

The purple is Lambs Pride Bulky in Supreme Purple. The pink is Cascade 220 in Raspberry. Scarf Style has some nice patterns in it. I have some Green Cascade 220 that my friend Jill gave me ages ago, and I think I might make “Backyard Leaves” with that.
However right now, I’m going to use this grey, dull, rainy afternoon to start my bag!

  1. Oh, Donna! That baby shawl is gorgeous! I can see why you might be thinking twice about the giving! What a lucky lucky baby!
I am in love with the pink/purple! That will brighten a day!

  2. It’s wonderful! Even if it doesn’t get used every day (blocking, heat), I am sure the mom will love it.
I think I have that very Cascade 220. I love that yarn. Great colors and non-bankrupting! 🙂

  3. The baby shawl is beautiful! What size is it? Regardless of whether the mother uses this for the new baby or not, it’s a wonderful keepsake. I know I would be very touched by this gift- knowing that someone made this for the baby!

  4. the shawl is gorgeous *faints*. they still have chilly nights, and babies lose heat fast anyway.
you should do a yarn harlot and calculate how many stitches it took, ie. “these 400,000 sts were knit with love by me” to bring the enormity of the project home to a non-knitter.
you should be proud, its just beautiful. cant wait to see it blocked 🙂

  5. OMG that shawl is absolutely gorgeous. I would be so excited if someone made something that spectacular for my baby (that is, if I could ever get pregnant, and not miscarry). you have done a sensational job. Well Done!
