Mystery Shawl 2 done.

I’m pretty pleased with it, but I have a few issues with the construction. First you knit a triangle from the point up (The centre triangle), then you cast off and pick up stitches along the two sides of the triangle. The cast off edge becomes part of the top of the shawl. I found that even though I cast off quite loosely, it was still too tight for me to block as aggressively as I would’ve liked.
My other personal beef with this shawl is that we were originally told we’d need 1200 yards of laceweight. We only used around 600. I already had the yarn, so it wasn’t so much of an issue, but if I’d bought yarn especially for the project, i’d be pretty pissed.
It’s the Mystery Shawl 2, from the yahoo group. I knit it in Knitpicks “Shimmer” in the Morning Mist colourway, which I overdyed with some landscapes dye in the colour “Opal”. I really like the Shimmer, but I’m not so keen on the colourways, I think there is too much contrast for lace.
I used 3.5mm needles, and I’m pretty happy with the tension.
So, it’s back to the Vanalinn Gloves. The first one is nearly done, so it’s not a huge amount of work until I have another finished item.
Twinkie gets a little impatient for her dinner sometimes.

You think she’d know by now that her dinner lands there!

  1. Mystery Shawl #2 is beautiful. Someone was way off in their measurements though, saying you’d need 1200 yards of yarn, and you only used 600. Weird. Twinkie is adorable. And hey, maybe she likes wearing a funky green hat! *lol*

  2. Hi Donna, I just thought I’d come catch up on your blog and I read that you pulled your back out! I did that (picking up DD’s dirty laundry, mind you!) about 5 weeks ago. Hope you are all mended up. BEAUTIFUL shawl. After I get a couple of more FOs, I’m doing either Kiri or Flower Basket. Oh, and I laughed aloud at the photo of your stash. Mines a *tad* too large as well (scratch that, I agree we just don’t have enough time).

  3. Your shawl turned out so very well. I joined the group for this shawl, planning to get to it when I got some time. That time never appeared, but it sure has been interesting reading about the problems like you have had. I love you pictures of Twinkie. That is one cute rabbit.

  4. Your shawl looks gorgeous. I’m about 1/4 way round the edge. I just can’t seem to get my head around how long the edge is going to take, it’s like the whole shawl over again!
Still, if mine is a tenth as nice as yours it will be great.
Thanks for the dancing advice. Taken with a big glass of chardy, it don’t seem so bad now.
    see you next week
