I like the way my blog looks like all I do is finish things. The reality is of course, way different, but I’ve been blogging less this year, so there’s been a lot more posts featuring finished items than works in progress!
I finally finished my Hitchhiker! I know some people rave about this, saying it’s a great, fast knit, but for me it just wasn’t. It was boring. B-O-R-I-N-G. It took forever, and all that garter stitch drove me batty. Only the gorgeousness of the yarn kept me going. But I’m glad it did, because I love the finished item.
Specs:
Pattern: Hitchhiker scarf by Martina Behm
Yarn: The gorgeous FiftyFifty by Knitabulous. Not sure what the colourway is called.
Needles: 3mm Addi Turbo.
Mods: I had intended to keep going until I ran out of yarn, but 45 points in, I’d had enough.
So, I’m happy with the scarf, love the colours, will wear it often, will undoubtedly never, ever knit it again!
RoseRed came by the shop the other day, and you know what she did? She taught me how to do the crochet edge on Elspeth!

Hooray! I’m super slow, and it’s eating heaps of yarn, but I’m managing. I sincerely doubt I’d ever use it for more than just edging, but at least I’ve managed that much.
And another project in progress photo just to show that i don’t just produce the items out of thin air, I’ve started a Baby Kina.
So quick! So cute! I’m seriously loving these quick, easy projects.
But to counter all that, I’ve joined in the fun of the Ella Reinvented KAL! This is a longer term project, and I’ve been asked to be one of the key bloggers knitting along! The KAL will start on January 16, and my yarn is on it’s way to me. Can’t wait to start this one 🙂
The Hitchhiker looks great – the Ailsa colour is perfect for you. But I suspect even I might find all that unrelieved garter stitch boring. Yay for Rosered and her crochet and crochet-teaching skills.
Yay for customers (who also happen to be bloggers) who come in to the shop and teach important things!
Baby Kina is so cute!
I think I might have a Hitchhiker in me. Garter stitch is about all I can manage lately!
Can’t wait to see Elspeth all done, the edging is looking great so far (bet you will have that crochet thing down pat by the end ot it!)
I’m very happy to see that finished hitchhiker – I’ve been seeing it as a wip for a very long time. The colour of yarn is perfect for you – i can’t remember what it was called either. Maybe we can call it belladonna.
love the Hitchhiker! was just watching the Knit Girllls podcast and one of them is doing it too.
and that RoseRed is just a font of knowledge, isn’t she? 😉 yay for having her to help!
Hitchhiker looks great. I also cast on the same pattern but ripped it off as I was not happy with the look of the points although I do enjoy the garter stitch. So I am now knitting Trillian. Happy Holidays.
Love your Hitchhiker. I started one and it is a bit boring now that I have about 8 teeth or whatever they are called.
the hitchhiker does look great in that yarn but i dont think i could manage one either. it totally suits you tho. im so bad at crochet, or even thinking about crochet, that i actively avoid things with crocheted elements. i know how much you love it (snort), so im impressed by your willingness to learn it and do it yourself for the sake of elspeth!
Totally can’t stand garter stitch. It takes forever and you get ripped off because the inbetween row gets squashed up so it grows slower!!
Loooove the baby Kina.
I’m still working on my hithhiker. No idea when I’ll finish it because i’m already so bored and tired of all the garter stitches!!
