Buttons

I’m not sure that I’ve ever mentioned that I have a bit of a thing for buttons. Always have had. When I was a kid, my mum had a huge tin full of buttons. I spent many an hour with that tin, sorting them out into colours, sizes, styles.
Even when Emily was little she used to play with my buttons, counting them out and piling them up.
I’ve acquired a few new ones lately.
These arrived this week.

I got these from a lovely lady in New Zealand who hand makes them. You can find her here.
We got some new buttons in at work, too. And a few of them have followed me home.

I especially love the little white shell ones with the pink flowers.
And there’s a lovely antique store down in Berrima called Peppergreen Antiques, which is sadly closing down. They have an incredible range of buttons. I managed to restrain myself and bring home only a few cards.

Buttons. Love them.
In knitting news, this many ends to weave in should be against the knitting law.

  1. Having seen it in real life I know that the tiny cardi is so beautiful it will be worth the tedium of finishing all those ends – even if they are cotton. The pink is such a great shade. Lovely.

  2. Those ends scare me!
Loving all of the buttons! Must say, the button stash at Peppergreen is overwhelming. The couple of times I’ve been there, I haven’t known where to start, heh!

  3. Love the buttons. My mother has a button tin. I have a tin that was my aunts that I plan to put buttons in. It’s been sitting for a few years waiting. I even bought felt to line it.
Have fun weaving in all the ends!

  4. buttons are amazing! seems like everyone has memories of nana’s or mum’s button tins – my nana used to collect all types of buttons but in particular she had a special collection of mother-of-pearl ones sourced from our regular trips to the op shop.

  5. i get completely overwhelmed at peppergreen too, and end up with nothing. you have a good eye for the nice button! they are all gorgeous. ive noticed them on your project bags too. and all those ends. gah. i thought if anyone could find a cheat for that it would be you!

  6. I thought I was the only little girl in the world who got to play with her mother’s button tin and sit for hours sorting!!
