Today, Ailsa and I went on a road trip. Well, of sorts. We went to visit my Not So local Yarn Store, The Wool Inn at Penrith.
The Wool Inn is about an hour or so from me, and Ailsa had already driven about 45 minutes, which is why it's the Not-So-Local.
We wandered around a bit and had a looky-see and a touchy-feel at all the lovely new yarns. I was good, all I picked up was this.

Two balls of Zarina, for a pair of Beaudelaires.
Then we got talking to Anita, the lovely owner of the store, and she started pointing out some of her new things. Like the Fiber Trends patterns.

And only $AU6. I tried to stop there, but then I saw this on the wall behind the counter.

I've been thinking about a black lace cardi for a while, and this one just leapt out at me. And the yarn for it was a great price, and I only needed 3 balls. And Anita had only 3 balls of black in stock. I told myself it was fate, and that followed me home too.

Now I am a Yarn Snob. I'll be the first to admit it.
This stuff is an Ackrylic blend. 70% Ackrylic in fact. But it really doesn't feel like it.
Sirdar "Blur" in black, 70% acrylic, 30% mohair. And as you can see, I have no restraint, I've already cast on.
And in fact, I've already ripped it out once, and it's a bitch to frog, like most mohairs.
That's it, I managed to stop there. Finally.

But I have a finished object to show! (Does that make up for it?)

The Mother's Day socks are done.
Specs: Generic 64st top down socks, K3, P1 rib
Yarn: Koigu KPPPM in P308

I'm happy with them, and I hope my Mother in law will be. I sneakily found out her foot size by checking her shoe size while we at the beach over Christmas. So I hope they fit, because her foot is smaller than mine and I can't check!

Wow! good choice in colour for Blur,I have a mohair cardy, semi lace, that I bought from susans last year(a quik buy as it was a special night out)It will be used lots!(But boy it itches)

Im nearly finished The Jo Sharp Bolero but Ive discovered that the sleeves are correct in measurement but the sleeve holes in fronts and backs are too big so Im back to drawing board to see if I reknit the sleeve tops to match holes or risk a close fitting top and redo the holes, hmmm. This is a quiet weekend thing I think!

Keep up with the updates as Id love to see how your black top goes,I rather like it too....

I remember after Cece you mentioned a black lace cardi: et voila!! Resistance is useless when you want to start a new thing, isn't it? The Mother's day socks are very nice indeed. I like the way the colours mix together!!!

Always make the most of trip that takes over an hour to get there, otherwise if you feel as though you should have bought something from the shop you will be thinking about it non-stop. I love your purchases, and luckily mohair aggravates me so I never buy it for myself. I love the MIL socks too, and if they dont fit perhaps Em can wear them.

The Zarina looks soooo yummy! I love Zara so I'm sure Zarina is right up there...such a splurge though. I love the idea of a lacy cardi in black - very wearable. I love the look and the feel of the mohair but I hate knitting with it. And the ripping makes me want to rip my hair out!

Your socks are beautiful. Lovely variegated color! I'm almost done with my Mother's Day socks for my mom - they're ALMOST knee highs and is taking forever! Just 1 toe left so I think I'll make it.

I think your mother-in-law will love the socks. Can't wait to see the black cardi when it's finished. I always enjoy knitting Sirdar patterns.
